Grants, Scholarships, and ApplicationsAFT Connecticut Scholarships
Each year, the AFT Connecticut Scholarship Program awards two types of grants that provide funding to eligible members as well as their dependents. The account is funded by the state federation and additionally supported by donations from local unions as well as the family of former president George Springer, Sr. Those eligible for Sharon M. Palmer Scholarships include members’ spouses or domestic partners, as well as their children or grandchildren. The George C. Springer Scholarships are open to members to further their own educational pursuits. Click here for the program guidelines and criteria. Robert Porter Scholarship Program
The program offers four 4-year, $8,000 post-secondary scholarships to students who are dependents of AFT members, as well as 10 one-time $1,000 grants to AFT members to assist with their continuing education and/or fund their proposed ideas to strengthen and grow their union. Since 1991, the Union Plus Scholarship Program has awarded more than $6.2 million to students of working families who want to begin or continue their post-secondary education. More than 4,400 families have benefited from our commitment to higher education. Eligibility: Current and retired members of participating unions, their spouses and their dependent children (as defined by IRS regulations). At least one year of continuous union membership by the applicant, applicant's spouse or parent (if applicant is a dependent). The one-year membership minimum must be satisfied by May 31 of the scholarship year. Click here for program guidelines and criteria. Connecticut Science Teachers Association Grant The Connecticut Science Teachers Association provides one or two small grants ($250-$500) each year to CSTA members to provide support for research, innovation, or enrichment activities not usually covered in normal school or institutional budgets.
