About the NHFT

Established in 1946

The NHFT is the local affiliate of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT). We are a union of professionals representing over 1800 teachers, library media specialists, school counselors, social workers, school psychologists, and other related school personnel who work in New Haven Public Schools. NHFT advocates for policies and practices that promote equitable public schools and high-quality public education for all New Haven children. By engaging in this work, we are able to ensure a better future for not only our members, but also for the students and families we serve.
