Understanding Your Pay Stub
Terms and Abbreviations:
BASE PAY - is calculated by dividing your yearly salary by either 21 or 26, the number of times you choose to be paid per year. If you have any paid days off (sick, personal, professional, funeral), the pay for those days is separated from the base pay. It may appear that your base pay is smaller, but it is not. If you add the base pay listed, with the amounts for any Paid days off, it will equal your regular base pay amount.
LIFE I - All teachers have $75,000 in life insurance. By law, any coverage over $50,000 is counted by the Federal gov. as a taxable benefit, and so we pay tax on the assessed value of $5,000 of insurance. Basically, we pay tax on an extra 3.81 per pay period. Please note: This is not a deduction from your pay.
